Q: Why doesn't the flocked  HTV feel fuzzy when I take it out of the package?
A:
The fuzz is HIDING! It's possible a little shy. 😉

You might be too if people always wanted to touch you! Don't worry, it is there underneath the clear carrier sheet (which you'll peel off after you've pressed the vinyl onto your fabric). If you're questioning whether or not you were sent the correct vinyl (we humans do occasionally make mistakes) simply peel back a corner of the clear carrier and feel for the fuzz.

Q: Why can't I find the 3rd layer that I'm supposed to peel off before cutting my reflective HTV?
A: That’s probably because you ordered Elastic Foil HTV, not Reflective. Don't worry, you're not the first one to wonder this - lots of people actually get confused. I guess we can chalk this up to poor naming, but we really tried to be logical. Elastic Foil is shiny like, well,  foil and Reflective is designed for safety gear (think runners and firefighters) and reflects the light.

Q: Which side do I peel off before cutting my reflective HTV?
A:
If you peel apart the corner of your HTV you’ll notice 3 layers – (1) A somewhat cloudy layer (2) the vinyl and (3) a very flimsy clear layer. This 3rd layer – flimsy and clear – is the layer that you’ll remove. If you’re still confused check out the image I attached. The say a picture is worth a thousand words – this has words AND pictures. You’re welcome. 😉

It doesn’t look like much but that flimsy piece of plastic is like the body guard to your reflective HTV. The reflective HTV is made with this extra layer because it is so special – would you believe it is actually made with glass in order to achieve the reflective look?

Q: What is the process for pressing Reflective HTV?
A:
I know I sound like broken record, but this reflective HTV is special, so we have to do things differently. She’s a bit of a diva, LOL, but she’s so beautiful that we put up with the hassle. After you’ve cut and weeded, give your shirt a quick press (about 5 seconds) to release any moisture and warm the surface. Place your design with the cloudy carrier sheet on top. Use only a 2 second press and carefully peel up the cloudy carrier while it is still hot. (If you notice that the design is not quite adhered, press for 1 more second.) The cloudy carrier will fuse to your fabric if you press too long, so you want to be really careful here. After you’ve removed the carrier, cover the design with a Teflon sheet, parchment paper, etc. and press for another 10 seconds. I highly recommend practicing on a scrap of fabric to perfect your technique. The good news is, when you do perfect that technique, you’ve conquered the most difficult type of HTV there is – go YOU!!

Q: Are there any other “special” tricks I need to know with Reflective HTV?
A: This reflective HTV is the only variant of the Firefly Craft family that does not come with a sticky backed carrier. So go slowly and be very careful when you’re weeding as it will be very difficult to re-stick anything you accidentally weed off.

Q: Is this printable?
A:
This is a Heat Transfer Vinyl and is "NOT" printable.

Q: Is transfer tape needed to be able to transfer the HTV?
A:
No transfer tape is needed. Just cut it, weed, iron-on and remove the clear overlap.

Q: Can you cut HTV using X-Acto in replacement of any machine cutter?
A: YES, you may use x-acto to cut this HTV. Just remember to cut it in reverse (or the mirror image) of how you want it to turn out because you are cutting on the backside that will be adhered to the fabric.

Q: What settings should I use on my HTV?
A: The heat settings and time frame always depend on the type of HTV and fabric/items that you are using. Kindly check on the side of the Firefly Craft HTV box for certain settings that you may use on the vinyl that you are using.

Q: Why is my HTV showing a white backing?
A:
You may notice that some of our vinyl has white backing, unlike others. It is used to emphasize some bright colors of HTV such as neon and other types we have. Don't worry because that is just a normal HTV and no additional steps needed.
